The Sky standard box is a digital decoder that is supplied free and provides access to over 200 different digital television and radio stations.

Using the standard box you can….

• Use Sky’s interactive TV and games.
• See what is on TV up to seven days in advance using the program guide.
• Order movies and sporting events.
• Make sure children don’t watch unsuitable programs using the parental control functions.

The standard Sky box will give you access to all Sky’s standard channels along with any extra packages you may have chosen. The only channels not available are those transmitted in high definition (also known as HD). Receiving channels that are not available on standard Sky’s package can be easily arranged by changing your subscription package at any time.

The standard Sky box can be connected to any existing television set. The box itself is free although Sky charges a one time installation fee of £60. The box itself works by decoding digital signal received by the Sky Minidish. The Minidish is a satellite dish that is fitted to the exterior of your building. The dish can be as small 45cm in diameter and will be fitted by a Sky technician as part of the one off installation fee. Once installed, you can enjoy the benefits of better quality digital pictures and sound.

The standard Sky box and package costing £18 will give you access to one mix and host of channels. However if you want to make more of your box you can subscribe to premium channels such as Sky sports or Sky movies at extra cost or you upgrade your package by adding entertainment packs. Sky world provides all 6 mix packages and both Sky sports and movies for £45 per month.

Subscribing to premium channels such as Sky Sports will allow viewers to watch Live Champions and Premier League football and other sporting events such as the Ashes or the Ryder cup. Movie channel subscribers will have access to network premiers such as the films 300 and Sex in the City.
